Saxophonist and composer Jayn Pettingill received her undergraduate music degree from Mills College and a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado. Jayn was deeply influenced by her early work with altoist Frank Morgan and multi-instrumentalist/composer Anthony Braxton.
Performing in a diverse array of groups, Jayn has prioritized a need to explore music in all of its forms. Some highlights of this work has included performing and touring with the West-African influenced group Pele Juju; recording and performances with pianist/composer Art Lande; the ROVA Saxophone Quartet and session work with professional big bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jayn is a member of Graham Connah’s Admiral Ted Brinkley Large Ensemble. Her own groups, The Lucky No. 1 Band, and Verb, feature Jayn’s compositions and arrangements. Currently, Jayn has been focused on writing and recording music for Verb’s debut album.
