A San Francisco Bay Area native, saxophonist and composer Jayn Pettingill received her undergraduate music degree from Mills College and a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado. Jayn was deeply influenced by her early work with altoist Frank Morgan and multi-instrumentalist/composer Anthony Braxton.

Performing in a diverse array of groups, Jayn has prioritized her keen interest in jazz history with the need to explore music in all of its forms. Some highlights of this work has included performing and touring with the West-African influenced group Pele Juju; recording and performances with pianist/composer Art Lande;  session work with professional big bands in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Denver Colorado area as well as work with trumpeter Ron Miles. Currently Jayn has been writing music for her own group, The Lucky No. 1 Band, which has performed in New York, Denver and San Francisco.
