San Francisco based saxophonist and composer Jayn Pettingill blends tradition with innovation. Having studied with saxophonists Frank Morgan and Anthony Braxton, her music exhibits the strong influences of both of these masters. At home in many styles, Jayn plays with a soaring lyricism and an urgency that is unmistakable. Jayn's performance credits include touring the U.S. and Canada with the high-energy Afro-Pop group Pele Juju, Indie-Rock guitarist Shelley Doty and her X-tet, trumpeter/composer Ron Miles, pianist/drummer Art Lande, the Montclair Women's Big Band, the R&B Free Jazz Gospel 80 Supreme, as well as numerous big bands and small groups throughout the Bay Area. She is currently focusing her energies on writing music for her own quartet, the Lucky No.1 Band, which has performed in venues in Boston, Denver and San Francisco.
